We are Australia’s first space dedicated to environmental art in all its forms, set amongst 16 hectares at the foothills of the Gariwerd/Grampians National Park.

The Wama Foundation precinct encompasses the National Centre for Environmental Art (our gallery), the Gariwerd/Grampians Gardens, Gariwerd/Grampians Endemic Gardens, Jallukar Grasslands, ephemeral wetlands, outdoor artworks, a shop and more.

Environmental art addresses social and political issues relating to the natural world. Our centre takes a broad perspective on the genre, embracing works that reflect the cultural, metaphysical, experiential and nonhuman aspects of the environment. Imagine interdisciplinary approaches, nuanced perspectives and a spirit of inquiry or, even better, come and experience it for yourself.

You don’t need to buy tickets in advance to visit our precinct, but it is recommended. Events are a bit different, and we recommend securing your ticket ASAP to avoid disappointment.

We are lucky enough to be located in one of Victoria’s most beautiful regions – the Gariwerd/Grampians National Park. You’ll know it for its wineries, rock art and climbing, and an abundance of other cultural and natural delights. More information on the region and what to expect can be found via Visit Grampians.

While the site evolves and expands, we recommend allowing an hour or two.

Yes, there is ample free parking on site for cars and bikes alike.

Our site, including our grounds, is sans steps and accessible via a ramp. Navigating some terrain outdoors is required, but the paths are flat with compacted gravel. Inside, the gallery, deck, bathrooms and education/events spaces are accessible. We also have a hearing loop in the gallery.

Absolutely! Children under 12 are free. We just ask that you supervise them at all times to protect themselves and our site.

Yes! Capturing content for personal use is allowed, however please leave your tripods, selfie sticks, flashes and lighting equipment at home. We sure do. Any items larger than a piece of A3 paper must be checked, including bags, umbrellas, luggage and so forth. From time to time, a member of our staff may direct you to store other belongings, too, at their discretion.

Certified assistance animals are permitted, but other furry friends must stay at home.

For conservation and safety reasons, access to the ephemeral wetlands is prohibited.

We ask visitors to exercise common sense, just like you would in any natural environment or public space: give native animals a wide berth, move mindfully through the spaces, wear appropriate footwear and sun protection, stay hydrated, etc. etc. The Wama Foundation is not liable for any losses or damages unless due to negligence or intentional misconduct.

Our site is smoke-free.
