We acknowledge the Djab Wurrung and Jardwadjali people as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which the gallery and gardens are located. We honour their ongoing care and connection to the lands and waters of Gariwerd, and pay our respects to their Elders past and present.

Community is at the core of everything we do.

Our journey began when patron Glenda Lewin and a group of local artists had a vision: represent and celebrate our relationship with art and the environment and grow the cultural offering of the Gariwerd/Grampians region. Everything you see today is the result of the inspiring efforts of those original visionaries, a troupe of volunteers, the community, and our small but mighty founding team.

"The Wama Foundation is growing thanks to the passion and generosity of people who care about art, nature, and the future of our environment. Everyone is welcome to be part of it—help us create a place where creativity, learning, and ecology thrive together."

Our vision for the Wama Foundation is ambitious.

As Australia’s first centre dedicated to environmental art, we are striving to create a space that positively impacts people and place, while creating opportunities to gather and engage, and protect and preserve. Every donation, no matter how big or small, helps us get that little bit closer to realising our goal.

Donations of $2 or more are tax deductible and go towards helping us care for our endemic gardens, facilitate events for the broader community, fund exhibition programs, and more.

“The Wama Foundation happened because of its many volunteers and supporters. We look forward to seeing young and old join us as we continue to create the precinct to ensure its vision is built upon and that it will be an enduring national and international precinct of outstanding merit.”
